Tuya ZigBee rain and light intensity sensor IPX4 MOES ZG-223Z
MOES ZG-223Z is a wireless rain and light intensity sensor operating on the ZigBee standard. It allows for the immediate detection of even small water droplets on the detection surface and monitoring of ambient brightness in smart home systems. A ZigBee gateway is required for the sensor to operate in the Tuya environment.
Key features:
- Dual function: precise rainfall detection and light intensity level measurement.
- Adjustable rain sensor sensitivity in the mobile app.
- IPX4 ingress protection rating ensuring resistance to splashes and rainfall.
- Wireless connectivity via the energy-efficient ZigBee standard.
- Battery-powered using a replaceable CR123A battery (included).
- Two mounting methods: stable placement on a stand or mounting with adhesive tape.
- Full compatibility with the Tuya ecosystem and support in the Zigbee2MQTT system.
Two mounting methods
The device design allows for adapting the installation method to environmental conditions. The sensor can be stably placed on a flat surface using the bottom stand housing or mounted on a wall or other plane using the included adhesive tape.

Weather resistance – IPX4 standard
The sensor is adapted for outdoor use in conditions of high humidity and during precipitation. The IPX4 ingress protection rating means protection against water splashes from any direction. This ensures resistance to typical rainfall, however, the device is not intended for immersion in water.

High sensitivity and water droplet detection adjustment
The detector surface reacts immediately to the appearance of even the smallest water droplets. In the app, the user can adjust the sensor sensitivity threshold, which prevents false alarms caused by morning dew or fog.

Ambient light level detection
The built-in light sensor measures ambient brightness. This allows for monitoring lighting conditions and adjusting the operation of devices in a home automation system.

Automatic lighting activation after dark
Thanks to light intensity data, the sensor can automatically trigger linked ZigBee light sources after dark, as well as control blinds or awnings in conjunction with rain detection.

Device dimensions
The compact housing allows for easy installation at an optimal measurement point outside the building or in the garden.

Compatibility with Tuya and Zigbee2MQTT
For direct integration with the Tuya Smart app, a ZigBee gateway compatible with this system is required. The sensor is also fully supported by Zigbee2MQTT software, where it identifies itself as model TS0601 _TZE200_2pddnnrk.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Does the sensor work independently via Wi-Fi?
No, the device uses the ZigBee standard and requires a ZigBee gateway compatible with the Tuya app or a ZigBee coordinator in Zigbee2MQTT for communication. - What does the IPX4 ingress protection rating mean?
It means resistance to water splashes from any direction. It provides protection against rainfall, however, the product must not be immersed in water or cleaned with pressure washers. - Can the rain sensor sensitivity be adjusted?
Yes, the water detection sensitivity is configurable in the app, which allows for eliminating false triggers during high humidity or fog. - Does the sensor work with Home Assistant?
Yes, thanks to support in Zigbee2MQTT (as TS0601 / _TZE200_2pddnnrk), the sensor can be integrated with Home Assistant and used in local automations.
